I’m going to miss these incredible fall colors! I’m so fortunate to have been able to spend lots of time outside during fall foliage season, but still I’m sad that it is coming to an end.
On a particularly colorful day recently, I got together with this family that I was excited to photograph for a second time. This year, the older daughter is a senior in high school, so it was important for them to have photos taken together before she heads off to college next year. We wandered around the trails at Lake Anne and took in the spectacular scenery.
Photo tip:
When you are taking portraits of people, chat with them the entire time. I’m always striking up conversation and trying to get to know the people that I am photographing. The more I get them talking, the more I discover what brings them joy and how they connect with each other. If they are telling me about something that they find fun, hilarious, beautiful, or sentimental, my photos will show much more genuine expression than if I had just told them to smile for the camera.
Also it’s just really fun for me to get to know so many fascinating people.
Would you like me to take your family’s portraits, too? Browse my Families and Kids portfolio, and then contact me to tell me all about your own family. I’d love to meet them.
