Mexico City
      January, 2009

With all the travel I’ve done in the last three weeks, I still haven’t had a chance to post most of the photos. I went to Mexico City for the first week of January with Mike, my parents, my brother Paul, and my brother’s family.

As I mentioned earlier, the trip didn’t turn out quite the way we’d hoped, because almost all of us came down with a flu that had swept through our family reunion the week before. Most of our plans got canceled during our week in Mexico, including an outing to the Saturday market, a private tour of the pyramids, and Mike’s birthday weekend in Cancun.

Despite all the sickness and cancellations, we still had a fantastic time with my family. It’s rare that all of us spend time together like this, so I loved even the quiet moments of reading books with the kids.

We didn’t get to see much of the city from beyond our car, but I did get a chance to do some drive-by shooting.

I found a giant margarita the first night.

We stayed in a business district, but even there we found lots of vivid colors.

My dad and I were sitting outside at Starbucks as we watched this guy sitting on a truck, watering the plants in the median. A car pulled up next to the truck and he sprayed the water right over it.

One day when Mike, my mom, my brother, and my nephew were sick, my dad and I took a long walk around the neighborhood. We didn’t see much on our walk, but I really enjoyed spending time with Dad.

I was in awe of the vivid colors everywhere.

Mom tried to take a sly photo of these scary military guys. Unfortunately she forgot to turn the flash off!

Another view of scary military dudes from our taxi. You can see Mike in the rear view mirror.

I need coffee everyday, but only frou-frou lattes. Mike cracked me up with his composition of this pic!

Charlotte, next time you head to Mexico, check out San Miguel de Allende. it’s a huge artist community and my uncle on my step-mom’s side lives there:

I wish I could take over his website as that hardly shows his talent. Anyhow, it’s a community not all that unlike Colorado Springs (in altitude and such). He owns a restaurant there as well.

Anyhow, great pics (as always) but check out his town if you get a chance. I have been wanting to go for ages and ages but I don’t fly so….

Love the photos of you with the giant margarita and the coffee, with the snob sign above. Sounds like fun despite everyone being sick.

i laughed out loud at “drive by shooting” and the snob cafe one

I love that your dad wore a sport coat for a little walk around the city.

Beautiful pictures – I’m sorry you all got sick, but it sounds like it was a good trip anyway.

I am SO sorry you didn’t get to enjoy that vacation very much…because the photos from just the days you managed to get out for a bit are so amazing!

I declare your next vacation a sick-free zone. That should take care of it for you 😉

Haha Snob cafe. That’s funny. Lovely architecture and colors in these. 🙂
