Last weekend I got together with local couple Adri and Robert, to photograph their family while her parents were visiting from South Africa. Long distance families need great photos of their limited time together. (I know this very well, because my in-laws live in England.)
I always like to choose portrait locations that are meaningful to the families I photograph. Because Adri’s family loves the outdoors and hiking, we chose Seneca Regional Park near where they live in Great Falls, Virginia. Seneca has beautiful, wooded trails that follow streams and lead to the Potomac River.
Multi-generation family portraits are especially fun for me to take — I love photographing the various relationships within the extended family. As we hiked along, I chatted with everyone and tried to learn how each person interacts with the others, and I hope my photos documented these different kinds of relationships. The best part were the adventurous kids! They were tons of fun and loved exploring!
Thanks, Adri and Robert, for asking me to photograph your fantastic family! I hope the photos will help to bridge the distance, at least a little bit.
Would you like me to take your family portraits? We could do a family portrait session like this one, or we could do a more candid documentary family session of a special event or typical day in your life. Contact me to let me know what you have in mind.
