This morning I met Carla Starkie for a sunrise photo shoot for her new CD cover. Carla is a jazz singer-songwriter here in Colorado Springs, who is recording a new CD with her band. She envisioned photos in front of rosy sunrise, so we arrived before 6am to be there when the sun came up. Despite today’s forecast for sunshine, the sky was entirely overcast and foggy, with no visible sunrise at all!

Fortunately Carla was flexible, and we decided to feature the morning fog instead of the morning sunshine. I loved the soft blue mist that surrounded the trees. I don’t usually wake up early enough to see these wonderful colors and light.

You can learn more about the lovely and talented Carla and hear some of her music here: http://carlasongs.com
If you live near Colorado Springs, check her CD launch parties at Nosh on June 16 and June 21!

The sun finally came up, even though we couldn’t quite see it yet.

      beautiful!!!

      Re: Awesome…

Actually I do plan to offer workshops, although I’ll be starting with beginner photographers. Stay tuned for info. 🙂

Oh wow, thank you for such wonderful praise. It’s great to know that my photos inspired you.

      Awesome…

I would have never guessed that the pics with the trees in the background was taken in Colorado Springs. Love your style. When is the workshop? 🙂

It is impossible to me to translate into english what a felt with your photos. I’ve made a personal archive in portuguese that I send you. I hope you can find someone who can translate it into english so you can know all that I felt. It’s very important, what you and the singer made is something thar wil endure for ever. I have no words to explain my gratitude. Read, if you can: “A emoção provocada pelas fotos pode impedir uma avaliação objetiva. A primeira foto, de frustração com a falta do nascer do sol, é um primor que ressalta os dois componentes da série: o ser humano, uma mulher lindíssima, e a natureza, que a produziu, a sustenta e a ilumina. A neblina remonta à origem do homem, ainda não totalmente descoberta. A mulher surge do meio dela.

I think my favorite is probably the first photo. Love how you used the fog to your advantage!

      the first. beautiful image.

I agree. They’re all great photos but that first one is just stunning.

      Re: Beautiful!

We took the photos at Evergreen Cemetery in CO Springs. It has long streets lined with trees, which made for a great setting.

So true! That mist was dreamy and worth every bit of the early wake-up.

      Beautiful!

These are beautiful Charlotte! My favorite is the very first one, I love it! Where was this taken at? I love the rows of trees, very beautiful!

Very nice shots Charlotte! I like the 1st one as well…

And that coffee mug looks gigantic..

      Wonderful shots! 🙂

Being able to adapt to conditions is a key trait of a good photographer.

A photographic philosopher once told me: “If God isn’t doing skies today, shoot flowers.”
It looks like you’re pretty good at making the best of the conditions you’re presented with.

Wow, what a great set of photos! My favorites are the one where she’s dancing in the road and her hair’s not in front of her eyes, and the one where she’s looking out the coffeehouse window.

I like these very much. Love the effect of the light that you got from this overcast, foggy morning.

Beautiful! (both Carla and the portraits!). The blue mist and morning light is lovely –almost enough so to wake early enough to see it every morning……almost 😉

She looks so beautiful and the photos are amazing (well, as always, but I do like these more than many before!)

Thirded! I think these pictures came out beautifully.

What a vibrant and lovely woman!

      seconded. It’s absolutely stunning.

Oh that first photo is a CD cover, no doubt. I *love* her dress!
