Ally, Mike, and Me

      Our second anniversary!

I propped the camera on a rock for this self-portrait, and the timer went off just as Ally shook herself off on us. ๐Ÿ™‚

Last week was our second anniversary, and Mike and I decided to spend it in beautiful Aspen. We took Ally with us, and even took her up the gondola to the top of Aspen Mountain! Aspen is one of my favorite towns, and it was a perfect way for us to celebrate two very happy years together. Wow, the time has gone by quickly! Mike and I have so much fun together. I can’t wait to see what adventures we’ll have together over the years!

If you want to see photos of our wonderful wedding two years ago, you can find many pictures (and video!) HERE.

      Waiting for the gondola

Ally wasn’t so sure about this gondola thing!

When we got to the top of the mountain, there were hula hoops scattered all around.

      The view was spectacular!

After hanging out at the top of the mountain for a while, we decided to hike all the way back down.

We came across these really nice guys on our hike… he poured his water into his hand and shared it with Ally!

      Ally found shade!

A paraglider, drifting quietly over us

      Ally watching the paraglider

This hike was the day after we photographed Matt and Amy’s wedding. We didn’t want to keep all their files in an unattended hotel room, so we brought copies of the photos on external hard drives, and I carried them with me all day!

We didn’t think to pack a backpack, so I hiked with my new Shootsac camera bag. It’s surprisingly comfortable on a hike, and our harddrives and water bottles fit perfectly in it.

It was fun to sit on the abandoned ski lifts.

After three hours of descent, we made it back to Aspen!

Aspen is awesome–it’s one of the most dog-friendly towns I know. This is the area outside a restaurant.

The next day we took a leisurely drive back home, enjoying the sights along the way.

Then we took Ally for a swim at Twin Lakes. She loved it, even though the water was COLD.

She found some yummy things to chew on.

Ally had never swum before! She’d splashed in water many times, but here are first attempts at dog paddling.

Ahhh, I love these! I love that you bring Ally all over the place with you guys. That’s just so awesome. My fiance and I bring our Doberman, Jade, everywhere with us, too, and hiking is one of our favorite things to do! Isn’t it great having a dog to do fun stuff with? I just love it. ๐Ÿ™‚

Oh cool! I love Jessica Claire’s blog… she’s one of my absolute favorites!

      Happy Anniversary guys!

(I was going to ask if that was a shootsac I’d spotted!)

Haha, I love that you brought their pictures with you on the hike.

Vaguely related silly story: We just got married two weeks ago (got back from our honeymoon at 2 am last night/this morning), and our photographer had a Shootsac. I’m a dork and I read Jessica Claire’s blog, so I asked our photog if it was a Shootsac and then had to explain how I knew what it was. (This was a much better story in my head…)

Happy 2nd Anniversary, Charlotte and Mike!

It seems that Ally had the most fun during your trip to Aspen. I think she enjoyed hiking down the mountain with her Mommy and Daddy.

You may not know this, but Aspen came very close to hosting part of a Winter Olympics. In 1969, Denver was chosen to host the 1976 Winter Olympics. Had the Games been held as scheduled there, only the figure skating, speed skating and hockey would have been in Denver. The skiing (both downhill and cross-country), ski jumping, bobsled and luge would have been in Aspen.

But Colorado voters turned down state funding to build venues for bobsled, luge, ski jumping, and speed skating. The organizers subsequently failed to get private funding to build those needed venues (today, were Colorado to try again for a Winter Olympics, they’d probably get millions in corporate donors and TV rights money to build the needed facilities to complement what already exists).

As a result, Denver relinquished the Games in early 1973. Innsbruck, which had hosted the 1964 Winter Games and had all the facilities needed already in-place, agreed to take them on. Innsbruck also agreed to honor a TV deal ABC had made with the Denver organizers for U.S. broadcasting rights.

Maybe someday, Colorado will get the Winter Games. And hopefully, you’ll be the lead photoraphers of the organizing committee, taking the “official” photos of the Games.

      Friends come? thanks

The photo of you and Ally in the gondola cracked me up. She looks so scared, poor thing. Looks like she had a blast otherwise, though!
