“When it rains, you might catch more frogs.”
— Silas, age 4
His mother told me a while ago that Silas plays outside every day, rain or shine. I thought of him yesterday as I looked out the window at the cold rain that seemed to be spoiling a perfect fall foliage day. I asked her if Silas would be willing to show me how to have fun outside in that kind of weather. In a steady rain shower, this adventurous 4-year-old led the way.
Silas is one of the kids I am featuring in a year-long photo series about the joys of outdoor play. These young people are showing me how to discover nature in a typical suburban community, in the hopes of inspiring other kids to step away from their screens and explore their world.
If you know a nature lover aged 2-17 in the Reston, Virginia area who would be a good choice for this project, please CONTACT ME. I’d love to hear about your little explorer.
