Me, lounging with a latte
Beaver Creek Resort, Colorado
September 12, 2009
Earlier this month, Mike and I spent a weekend in luxurious Beaver Creek for Liz and Dudley’s destination wedding. It was great to have a few days to enjoy the early autumn, with the aspen leaves starting to change throughout the area. This is how I spent the early part of the wedding day, lounging outside the Hyatt with Starbucks and a general sense of bliss.
I used my point-and-shoot camera for our own photos, and saved the big gear for Liz and Dudley.
That’s Mike in the distance, taking a business call. I don’t think they had any idea he wasn’t in his office.
Not bad for a point-and-shoot, huh?
My little Canon G10 has great shutter speed control!
Mike and I thought we’d buy this little mountain cabin as a rustic weekend getaway. We like roughing it.
The day after the wedding, we drove home via Hwy 24, and passed this mining ghost town.
All these houses are abandoned. It was eerie.
Later we explored the old training grounds for the 10th Mountain Division. These ruins are all that remain.
Further down the road, I made friends with some horses.
The snow on the mountains had arrived just the day before.
Finally we wandered through the adorable town of Leadville. I can’t believe we get to see great places like these during a commute to and from a job. I love it.
my commute through the countryside of MD is pretty grand, but this is spectacular. LOVE IT.
also, that horse in the second to last photo looks like he’s saying, “I’M ALMOST AS BIG AS DIS MOUNTAIN.” *g*
WOW! My vacation photos don’t look like that!!! Love your photos…I can’t stop looking at your work.
And miss you!

These are lovely photos!
The first time I ever took a picture of a horse up close, I was just fascinated with how large it was, and how quickly it decided to sidle up to the fence where I was standing. I think it assumed I had a lump of sugar or an apple.
Oh man–I haven’t been to Leadville in years. My family used to drive through there every time we went up to Taylor Park in the summers. Once I moved to Colorado Springs I just drove up around the south end of 24 though. I miss those drives.
Amazing pictures, as usual. I wish I could get such stunning pics from my point and shoot.
Looks like an amazing time!
yep. as much as i love living in rural new england, i desperately need to spend some time in colorado. 🙂

I guess the houses were abandoned due to danger from landslides like the one in the next photo!
Oh, have you seen this? a wild life photographer set up his backyard pond to photograph bats swooping down for a sip at night: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/article-1213851/Stunning-shots-thirsty-bats-swooping-lick-water-garden-pond.html
Love Mike’s “office.”
Gorgeous, as always. 🙂
