Early December is technically still autumn, but it always felt like winter in Colorado. Here in Virginia there are still a few colorful leaves on the trees, mostly due to the gorgeous Japanese maples that are sprinkled throughout town. This one in my parents’ front yard keeps me craving pumpkin soup and apple cider. Its bold red color is also a great transition to Christmastime, making the Japanese maple the perfect early December tree!

I love Japanese Maples. We had one in our yard, but last year’s frigid winter killed it. We kept hoping it would magically come back during the summer, but we finally cut it down a few months ago. *sniff*

LOVE this shot!! I wish we still had leaves… That’s my favorite thing about fall! Right now in Colorado Springs it looks like winter but without the pretty snow :/
