South Park City
Fairplay, Colorado
August 23, 2009
I have had such a busy summer that I haven’t had a chance to process most of the photos that I took for myself. They are all sitting on a hard drive in untouched raw format. I’ve decided to start processing them in small batches when my time permits, so I’ll probably be posting them here in random order as I finish.
Here’s our afternoon being tourists at South Park City in Fairplay. It’s a restored old mining town that we drive past every time we head into the ski resort areas. One day Mike and I decided to stop and check it out. We had no idea what to expect, but it turned out to be an impressive and thorough museum that was a lot of fun to photograph.
Father Dyer Chapel
Carpenter/morgue
A mining shack
Huge mining equipment
The one-room schoolhouse
Inside the schoolhouse
The stairs leading to the Masonic temple
Inside a family home
Is there where south park is meant to be based and depicted in the series??
The first picture was taken with my 16-35, probably at 16mm.
The first picture- panarama, or just really really wide?

I agree! The sky was good for backgrounds and provided lovely lighting situations. 🙂
I can’t get over how gorgeous the sky looks in all of these! Great photos too 🙂 I love historical towns
this is so cool! thanks for sharing that!! 🙂
Wow what a great place!
carpenter/morgue? yikes!
This is a beautiful vision…
of what life looked like in mining days. Thanks Charlotte for the nice break… and visual treat.
Ever in Ca? Visit the town of Brodie. It is a small ghost town… with stunning scenery and relics of the past.
I live in Sacramento, CA and we just celebrated Gold Rush Days in Old Sac.
Gold Rush Days – Sacramento’s heritage celebration-is scheduled for Labor Day Weekend.
More than 200 tons of dirt will be dumped on the streets of Old Sacramento as the annual festival “turns back the clock,” transforming Sacramento’s historic district into a scene straight out of the 1850s. Costumed re-enactors, Wild West gun fights, musicians playing period instruments, and many aspects of life during the Gold Rush will be highlighted during the four-day event.
