Keely and Adam
Crossroads Baptist Church and El Jebel Shrine
Denver, Colorado
July 11, 2009
Yesterday I was the second shooter for a wedding with my good friend Brad Walters. It was my first day shooting with my new Canon 5D Mark II camera, so I was excited to have a chance to try it out. This camera is known for its ability to perform beautifully at high ISO, which really suits my preference for natural light photography. The church and reception venue yesterday were both quite dark, so I photographed much of the day at ISO 4000. The results are excellent, and I’m really happy with my new camera.
One of my favorite things about second shooting is the freedom to take lots of pictures of the children at weddings. When I’m the primary shooter, I don’t have much time to play with the kiddos, but yesterday I made sure to take lots of pictures of the many cuties in attendance.
Thanks, Brad, for asking me to shoot with you!
Keeley and the ladies got ready at the Westin Hotel in Westminster.
Keeley’s room had a beautiful view of the mountains.
Keeley has gorgeous turquoise eyes.
Here’s Brad Walters
Looking fabulous is a tiring process.
Adam’s mother and Keeley’s mother have become great friends.
I loved Keeley’s father’s reaction when he saw her before the ceremony. His eyes opened wide before he teared up.
The flower girl let out an indiscreet yawn during the ceremony.
Bridal preparations: Westin in Westminster
Ceremony: Crossroads Baptist Church in Northglenn
Reception: El Jebel Shrine in Denver
Primary photographer: Brad Walters Photography
Gorgeous photos. My favorite is the one where her father walks in and to see the look in his eyes. Priceless. Enjoyed the different shots you took of the dance area. It was beautiful to look down onto the dance floor. So many wonderful expression where captured also. Excellent work on the photography.
[…] This was a larger than average wedding, so I asked our dear friend Charlotte Geary to second shoot at this wedding, and her help was…….there is no word to describe how valuable it was at the wedding. The images she captured were stunning as usual. View some of the photos she captured on her blog: here […]
the kids are adorable 🙂
and I love her dress, especially the back of it.
are there more pictures of her dress?
Had to post another reminder about the camera.. didn’t you? 😉
Shots look great as always! And I am stunned about how great the ISO4000 looks. But, then again that is what you are paying for!
Thanks a lot!
I like to look your photos 🙂
Thanks! I shot the ceremony at ISO 4000, and some of the preparations and other moments throughout the day. ISO 4000 is pretty crisp with much lower noise than I would have expected. The photos look fine in color, but for this particular church, I prefer them in b/w.
The photo of the bride’s parents crying during the ceremony was ISO 5000. That one is visibly noisy, but I think the noise is worth it for the ability to capture a moment like that. I think I’ll be shooting at high ISO frequently!
Thanks a lot!
I like to look your photos 🙂
Fantastic Charlotte! I’m glad you love the 5dmkII, it’s a great camera! My favorite shot is of the bridesmaid about to open the bottle of champagne, what a moment you captured there! Great work, as always! =)
Thanks so much shooting with me Charlotte. These images are stunning, and I’m excited to see the rest of them. Keeley and Adam are going to be so happy!
Brad
Really great photos. And the kids… they didn’t thought about the photographer at all!
What are the photos at ISO 4000, b&w? How do they look in colour? I’m thinking about 5D Mark II now and it’s very interesting for me. My friends don’t shoot with this ISO and I don’t know why. Will you?

Thanks! I love that one, too.
It’s true that second shooting is the perfect time to test out a new camera. There is some muscle memory to relearn, as well as technical capabilities to discover, so it’s great to experiment when I’m not the head shooter. 😉
Me too – that picture is just great.
Second shooting must have been a great chance to try out the new camera without having to worry *too* much that something would go wrong.
Backup is a constant effort! I have several external hard drives, each paired with a mirror drive. I also back up all my files on DVD, and all my JPEGs online at smugmug.com.
I can’t get enough of that flower girl! Too cute.
I’ve been thinking about digital backup lately, and I was wondering, where/how do you store and back up all your digital photos? Do you have external hard drives everywhere or have a online storage location or something? Just curious!

Awesome photos! I love the bridesmaid dresses too, they’re perfect for a summer wedding!
Excellent! I’m glad that the 5D Mark II is working well for you.
what a cool venue!
also I think my fav is the second to last haha
Love the reception venue – the gallery along the top looks really sweet and I bet made for some good overhead shooting!
