One of Reston’s most adorable events is the annual Jingle on Lake Anne. This holiday celebration takes place at Lake Anne Plaza each year, with crafts, gingerbread cookies, and visits with Santa.
The highlight of this event each year is Santa’s arrival at the Plaza. In true Reston style, he travels by pontoon boat! Crowds of cheering families greet him as his boat approaches the plaza. This is one of my favorite Reston events of the year. I say that a lot, but I can’t help it – there are so many special events that make this town such a great place to live, and Jingle on Lake Anne is undoubtedly one of them.
As the boat gets close to the Plaza, he stands and waves to the crowd as everyone cheers. I have to admit, even I find it thrilling every year. To add the to the fun, Santa’s boat is accompanied by paddleboarding elves! Anyone who wants to paddle with Santa can join in the fun.
This year I had a very special job as one of Santa’s helpers! I was one of the two photographers who took the official portraits of the families with Santa. I absolutely loved this role — after all, there is nothing cuter than a child seeing Santa. I loved watching them hug their beloved hero and share their secret wishes. It was completely precious.
Somehow I managed to photograph 57 families in just over an hour. That’s a record for me, no doubt. Here are a few of the many adorable families I photographed.
