My birthday is coming up in a couple days, and every year I want to do the same thing for my big day: explore fall colors somewhere pretty. Sure, I like an occasional dance party, and I’m not one to turn down margaritas and/or karaoke, but my favorite way to spend my birthday is a peaceful hike through a fall forest.
This year we decided to take the family to the mountains near Wintergreen, Virginia, and stay in a cabin for the weekend. We discovered online the Southern Comfort Lakeside Cabin Resort in Nelson County, and it looked perfect. We were correct. It was.
We stayed in a log cabin on Hamilton Lake. The cabin was fully furnished and heated, and even had a luxury bathroom and full kitchen. I may never go camping again after discovering luxury cabin life.
On Saturday morning, I got up early while the rest of my family was sleeping, and watched the sunrise over the lake. It was my perfect birthday celebration moment.
Finally I sat on the porch of our cabin, and drank coffee as the sun rose through the lake mist. I must go back to this blissful place.
