A cake with rich autumn colors for an October wedding

I’ve noticed that when I meet with brides, grooms, and coordinators, they often look through my photographs for inspiration as they plan their weddings. I thought it might be a fun idea to start a new feature here with wedding ideas. Because I’m a sweet tooth, I thought it was appropriate to start with cakes! Here are some memorable cakes and cake alternatives that I’ve seen over the last couple years. Enjoy!

A crystal monogram topped this cake.

This cake’s woodsy decor suited the wedding’s mountain setting.

A whole array of sweets were available along with the cake.

An array of stars leaped out of this cake.

This multi-tiered cake was a great choice for a venue with such tall ceilings.

A stack of doughnuts was a hilarious choice for a policeman’s groom’s cake.

This wedding took place in a meadow and a lodge, so the wildflower theme was just right.

Playful cupcakes were scattered around the cake table at this laid-back, fun wedding.

      Fresh roses for mid-summer.

An elegant dessert served to the guests is a great choice for formal, contemporary weddings.

Fresh flowers were a great choice for a garden wedding, with a different color on each layer.

This one was a personal favorite, because their wedding colors were the same as ours!

In a formal ballroom, a grand setting for the cake is almost as important as the cake itself.

This wedding had a pie buffet that was a huge hit.

This couple trains guide dogs, so they had subtle paw prints in the flowers of their cake.

This cake was covered in phrases that described the bride and groom’s feelings for each other.

Penguins mate for life, which is why I find this topper so charming.

Another October wedding had colorful sugar leaves on the cake.

Snowflakes decorated this cake and its crystal topper for a December wedding.

It certainly was, and it was fun to do.

The only thing I regret is that I wasn’t there to watch my mom make the cake.

…I also missed out on all that free cake while she was practising! Darn.

      Thank You!!!=]

It was an incredibly fun wedding. They went out of their way to make sure there were lots of things to do to keep everyone entertained. Loved it.

I really like these cake pictures: they bring back memories, given that when my sister got married, my mom made the cake, and I did the decorative beading that went around its two tiers.

Hi I was wondering if you could tell me where I can find the wedding with the cupcakes? I’ve looked at all the posts before but I don’t remember seeing this one, thank you!!

      aww, thanks for the memory!

I’m constantly amazed at how cake artists can sculpt such amazing things.

Very true! With all the artistry that goes into a cake, it’s a shame not to have anything to keep after it’s gone. (But of course, there are always the photos, too!) ๐Ÿ™‚

I’m really glad you enjoyed them!

You and me both! (I say that as I much on some chocolate at my desk) ๐Ÿ˜‰

      Hmmmm… pretty great idea, thanks!

I love Ace of Cakes! I want to have a grand celebration of some sort, just so they can sculpt me something amazing.

The pie buffet was a huge success. People started swarming around it before they were allowed to start eating. ๐Ÿ˜‰

I went back only a year and a half for this post, sorry! Since it was a particularly fabulous cake, here you go:

The cupcakes were the perfect choice for their wedding, and Mike’s playful angle for the photo made it even better!

I’m so glad it could be helpful for you! What better way to get inspiration than to see photos of real life weddings. ๐Ÿ™‚

I dig the crystal toppers, what a neat item you can keep and display after the cake is long-ago-eaten.

You could make a lot of money marketing an inspiration book with chapters dedicated to different aspects of weddings you’ve shot.

These are great ideas! Have you watched the show Ace of Cakes? He makes the most extreme and most creative cakes I’ve ever seen. They’re awesome.

I won’t be getting married for quite some time yet, but I’m SO doing a pie buffet. that is awesome.

what about that cool cake w/ the pez bride and groom on top? ๐Ÿ˜‰

i love the idea to have inspiration books for your clients to take a gander at!

Oh, I love the wildflower themed one!

I agree with the first commenter – I think that if you have beautiful cake pictures available, people are bound to share them, and that only gets you more good exposure.

Love those cupcakes! You really did them justice with that photo!

I’m so glad you’re doing this! I’ve been taking inspiration for my wedding since I stumbled upon your work. This will make it much easier than jotting down dates for searching. =)

They are all gorgeous! I love the first one and also the one with the wildflower theme.

What a great idea for not only showcasing your own work but to give your clients and potential clients ideas.
