Hollie and Micah
      Omaha, Nebraska
      April 4, 2008

We traveled to Omaha last weekend for Hollie and Micah’s wedding. They got married Friday at a church where Hollie grew up. Her father was the pastor, so her family lived in the parsonage next door to the church when she was a child. The ceremony was especially beautiful and personal because her father officiated. It was wonderful to watch the pastor escort the bride down the aisle.

Hollie and Micah have fun, laid-back personalities, and they added lots of personal touches to make their wedding suit their style. I loved their idea of board games at the reception!

Hollie and Micah, I hope you’re having a wonderful time in the Alps!

The day began at Hollie’s grandmother’s house, where the ladies were getting ready. While Mike was preparing our equipment, Hollie’s two little sisters were fascinated by all the cameras. Mike gave them a photography lesson, and they seemed to pick it all up quickly, including Pocket Wizards. All three of them were adorable.

Meanwhile, I photographed some of their details, including Hollie’s tiara.

      Micah designed the fabulous invitations.

We met up with Micah at the church.

Micah had Scrabble cufflinks, which fit in well with the board games at the reception.

      Hollie’s adorable little sisters again.

One of her sisters gave her a note before the ceremony.
“It just says Hollie,” she explained as Hollie tried to open it.

      Hollie’s grandmother

As their wedding gift to each other, Hollie and Micah bought a 1978 VW van and drove it from the ceremony to the reception.

      I love this one.

Hollie carried a locket with Micah’s baby photo with her bouquet. It was a gift from Micah’s grandmother.

Their reception took place at Bellevue Berry Farm in a huge barn.

I loved the look on Micah’s face as they peeked in the door when they arrived.

There were dozens of different games placed on tables throughout the room.

The tablecloths were paper, with crayons for doodling. I liked this drawing someone did of Hollie and Micah.

They had an old typewriter for guests to type messages for Hollie and Michah. Here’s Hollie’s mom.

      The photo booth was a huge hit. I loved spying on people in the booth;
sometimes they never saw me there, and sometimes I caught them by surprise.

Look at Hollie’s sisters as their dad gives his toast.

Mike found a fun angle for the cake cutting.

      S’mores!

I like this shot of Hollie and her cigar

They ended the night with a sparkler send-off for the bride and groom. This is a cool shot of Micah’s dad.

      Some of the resulting calamities!

      Skin Graft

I believe that the sparkler fiasco ended up in a skin graft for one of the groomsmen…he did live.

Thanks for sharing the pictures. They were beautiful. Micah was just a little boy the last time I saw him. They grow up fast. Mark and Annie you did a great job. Love Scharmel Watanabe and Family

      Charlotte-

I wanted to thank you and Mike for doing such a wonderful job! I felt like you both really belonged at all the festivities- like you should be at all our important and silly gatherings as friends. Thanks for getting to know us, and taking such amazing pictures. Hollie and Micah (and all of us) are blessed to have had both of you in Nebraska on 040408.

      Maybe we’ll meet again.

      Cheers!

You and Mike were so fun to have around that day. Thanks for capturing my friend’s big day!

Haha yeah it would have been!!

Actually the van wasn’t exactly in top running condition. 😉 I wouldn’t have been surprised if there had been a moment when the gang had to get out and run along side it in true Little Miss Sunshine style. That would have been awesome.

Sure, I could probably help you find a photographer. Email me at charlotte@charlottegeary.com and we’ll chat. 🙂

That wedding looks so gorgeous! I love the shots of them in the field, and the van! That’s so awesome 🙂 it reminds me of “Little Miss Sunshine” 🙂

i want cute little sisters like that!
love this wedding. totally cool ideas!

      great pics as always!

      the first photo is amazing!
i loved everything that they did at their wedding, gives me some ideas for mine if i ever have one.

Are there any of your associates in the New England area who you would recommend? I have been so spoiled by your photographs that I really wish I could afford to fly you to Maine for our wedding!!

What a fun and unique wedding! The bride’s engagement ring is gorgeous. Also, I love those sky shots.

We don’t usually use a tripod at weddings, but we always bring one, just in case. We use fast lenses with large apertures, so we often shoot at f1.8 or f2.8 during the ceremonies. Often Mike will stay in the back of the church or in the balcony, with a long lens and a tripod when needed. The only other time that we use a tripod is at night, when we do some twilight long-exposure shots of the venue. During the rest of the day, we move around way too much to use a tripod.

Do you have fast lenses for your upcoming wedding? If you don’t have anything as fast as f2.8, I highly recommend that you buy or rent another lens or two. My favorite ceremony lens is our 135mm f2, which is great in low-light situations.

      Good luck!

      What a fun wedding!

Do you very often use a tripod when shooting? I am doing a wedding in May and I am nervous about the indoor shots and having to lower all my settings so much that I run the risk of them coming out blurry :/

They had such wonderful ideas! We really do have a great career, thanks. One of my favorite parts of my job is the variety of celebrations that we see. A countryside wedding in Nebraska was a total delight. 🙂

I loved the huge, bright blue sky with white, puffy clouds!

They had so many creative ideas that I hadn’t seen before. I’m glad they’ve inspired you!

I love how they found tons of ways to entertain their guests, even though there was no dancing. That took lots of creativity! It was a huge success.

Hi there, it’s great to meet you! I’ve never met anyone from Tatarstan before. 🙂 I’m glad you are enjoying my photographs!

Yay, I’m sure Hollie and Micah will love this comment. 😀

Oh yes, wedding season is here for us! It started a month earlier this year, which is totally cool. We have some fun weddings lined up for this year!

Hollie’s sisters were so much fun! After Mike taught them a thing or two about photography, they thought of themselves as our assistants for the day. One of the girls kept reporting in to Mike throughout the day, such as: “I’m going to go upstairs for a little while, but then I’ll be back!” CUTE.

I had no idea Mike was up in the balcony during the cake cutting. He has such great ideas!

It was fun to go from the mountains of Colorado to the plains of Nebraska!

I hope that someday Mike and I will be holding hands while our grandson gets married.

      WHAT FUN! great as always!

This looks like it was such a fun and laid back wedding! I just love some of the ideas that they had! Love the picture of the cupcakes. What a great career you have, I’m jealous! Wonderful work that you’ve done here.

Those fields and sky are a dream! I particularly love the shots outside of the church, and the two of them solo.

      Absolutely beautiful!
I love the shot of the tiara.

Every time you post, I just want you more and more for my own wedding. <3

I love the style of their wedding..it was so beautiful!! 🙂 Nice job capturing that!

      My favorites:

      – the grandparents holding hands
      – the aerial of the cake cutting
      – hollie with her cigar

      FANTASTIC!

what an awesomely fun wedding, and a great job of capturing the fun and love of the event! If I were wedding planning today, I’d totally steal the photobooth and typewriter ideas 😛

I love the ones of them in the field – I never think of Maryland as ‘hilly’ but am amazed when I see landscape photos of the midwest of how ___flat___ everything is. Beautiful!

I totally teared up at the picture of the grandparents holding hands during the wedding ceremony while holding the filmstrips of the bride and groom. Sort of captures all of the hope one has on a wedding day.
