While we were visiting my cousin in Southport, North Carolina last week, she took us to a lake near Brunswick Town/Fort Anderson, where she had seen wild alligators before. The kids and I really wanted to see one, and boy did she deliver.
It was a total shock. We shouldn’t have been so surprised, because knew we were visiting a spot where they were likely to be. But there was no sign of them. The water was still. So when this huge head appeared 15 feet from us without a single warning, we screamed. I don’t think I’ve ever seen such a stealthy creature.
…. and that’s when I got out of there!
I’m pretty sure he/she was just yawning, because there didn’t seem to be any aggression involved, BUT STILL. What a rush!
