Rodney and Rebecca
August 27, 2005

Congratulations to Rebecca and Rodney, who were married in the gorgeous Air Force Academy Chapel.
It was a dream wedding day, starting with a picture-perfect first meeting in the Garden of the Gods,
and ending with a wild party with all their friends.

More pictures from their wedding

This one makes me laugh. What a fun catch!

I gotta say I love the cake cutting photograph. Wow after seeing some of these pictures I feel like I picked the wrong photographer on my day. They didn’t turn out horrible they just lack the spontaniety of these pictures.

WOW.
Everything is just WOW.

I would love that. Let me know if you come out this way!

my best friend is an airforce wife. her husband is being stationed in denver next year. i also have a few friends out there. i may consider taking a trip out that way to explore and see them. perhaps we can arrange something when that time comes.

Hi there! It’s great to meet you. You’re very welcome to add me to your friends!

I have friends in Pennsylvania, so I may very well be out there before long!

Actually I don’t recommend that you try to explain a style to a photographer. Instead, I suggest that you study photographers’ portfolios and complete weddings, and examine their own style. A photographer is unlikely to change his or her style to suit a client’s request. Instead you should look for one who already has your preferred style. Good luck!

I don’t usually use a tripod at weddings–they are too unwieldy for such fast-paced events. During the ceremonies I usually use a tripod, though. Mike will wander around the sidelines and take closer pictures, while I’ll stand in the back of the aisle, with a long lens on a tripod. If the ceremony is outside on a sunny day, though, I just hand-hold the camera.

Oh gosh, I have so many wedding photography books, but I don’t know if any of them have been particularly useful. What has been a bigger help to me is the web. I recommend that you study photographers’ portfolios as much as you can. Some of my favorites include:

http://www.joephoto.com/
http://www.jcsphoto.com/
http://www.thebecker.com/

Read photo.net and study everything you can for tips. Read your user manuals for your equipment. You might want to consider buying a book about flash, because flash is tricky to do well.

I do hope it works out! Maybe we can come down a day early, if that will help. Let’s see!

thanks for the tips!

do you always use a tripod for your wedding shots? also, do you know of a good (preferably beginning) wedding photography book you can recommend?

I’m from Weddingplans community… and may I just say that your photography is AMAZING.
I wish my photographer I booked for my wedding was a great as you are! haha

If you’re EVER in Western Pennsylvania, let me know! I’d like to have a little shoot with you!

Mind if I friend you?

It IS! The only problem when I visited was the it was in the heat of the summer and it was even hotter than Texas if you can believe it. 🙂 It’s beautiful everywhere in that area though.

I hope it works out. My husband’s family gathers in Oklahoma for Thanksgiving and that is usually the only time we are able to see everyone together because most of the family does their own thing for Christmas. Maybe we’ll be back before you leave, or you’ll be here before we leave. *crosses fingers* If not, I for sure am going to make it work at some point. lol I want to plan a new wedding for you to photograph. 🙂 Of course it won’t really happen, but it’s nice to dream!

WOW! What a gorgeous Chapel! I have never seen a building that unique in it’s architecture. Just spectacular to look at! Great photos! 😉

wow,those are amazing pictures.
Charlotte, your photography is exactly the kind of style that I like. How would I go about explaining that type of style to another photographer?

i totally wish that i could come out to colorado just so that you could photograph ray and me!

i am so jealous of the type of photos that you manage to produce.

Thanks! That chapel is spectacular. 🙂

I don’t use any on-camera filters at all, although I do play with some of my photos in photoshop. I added a photoshop filter to picture of the bride kissing her little son, to soften it and give it a dreamy loook.

It’s definitely tricky to get good whites when the bride is wearing a white dress. Sometimes I have to overexpose a half a stop or more. When in doubt, I correct the contrast in photoshop.

Thanks so much! It’s always great to get such feedback from other photographers. I really am fortunate to work in some of the most beautiful landscape in the country. I never take it for granted!

Isn’t that chapel gorgeous! The entire Academy campus is beautiful, too.

Yes, we are still coming to Dallas for Thanksgiving! I’d love to meet with you that weekend for pictures! We can arrange a time as the date gets closer. 🙂

the colors came out really beautiful

what incredible photos and an amazing chapel. that one with the mirror is too funny! your photos always blow me away.

questions again: do you use any filters for these shots, specifically the outdoors ones? also, do you have any tips for maintaining such a brilliant white?

You are an awesome photographer and man do you get some of the best locations to photograph weddings. The area AND the chapel is amazing. I have never seen anything like that building before and makes for perfect shots. GREAT JOB!

Those are beautiful! Her dress is amazing, as is that chapel. Both my parents were in the air force, so I have been there before. You capture everything wonderfully.

Still coming down to Dallas around Thanksgiving? I am dying to have you photograph us sometime.
