Charles Elijah and Dorothy

      October 24, 2008

Last year I photographed this incredibly fun family to commemorate Dorothy’s first birthday. This year she has a new baby brother! I had such a good time with them last year that I was really excited when they asked me to come back and photograph their growing family. You can see last year’s portrait session here. Dorothy has grown so much, and it was adorable to see her with her little brother.

This was their family in July 2007.

Here they are now! A year has brought them a new baby, a new painting, and a precocious two-year-old. I love how the Russian stacking dolls mirror their family.

Ye, I see…I saw that you conduct some master-calasses.But not in Russia, unfortunately. I hope I’ll make a trip around Europe in a year or so, and I’ll try to meet some famouse photographers if I have an opportunity. Hope to visit America some day. I also want to find some summer photo-classes at maybe art universities but don’t now how to find them.

Hi! I use Canon 5D’s and a large variety of lenses. I like to shoot with natural light, so I prefer lenses with large apertures.

What camera and what lenses do you use?))))you have a golden eye on family photoes)))

I’m not sure about job opportunities, but it’s a large and thriving metro area, so I imagine there are lots of great jobs to choose from.

      Re: beautiful

      I would love that!

I loved the slide static, too! Her hair stood in every possible direction.

Thanks so much! I love the one of the mother alone, too. The parents weren’t sure whether they wanted pictures of themselves alone that day, but I know that their kids are going to love those pictures when they get older.

      How are the jobs there?
I have been to Boulder and downtown -(which i loved!). Unfortunatly my husband isn’t really into the idea…

I do both. For this particular family, I set up casual poses in areas with good light and nice backgrounds. The rest of the day I let them do their thing, and I documented it naturally or stopped and said, “Can you do that again?”

For example, the portraits of the parents alone together were semi-posed, but I let them interact together naturally. The picture of Adam tossing Dorothy in the air was something he chose to do, but I hurried over and asked them to do it again. The picture of Dorothy cuddling up next to her mom was entirely candid and I’m glad I caught that sweet moment.

That’s such a nice thing to say, thanks!

Thanks! This family is so much fun!

Denver is a great place! You should consider it. 🙂

fun! she’s grown so much, what a beautiful family!

I’m loving the slide-static hair. Too cute. You are amazing, Charlotte.

You’re so great. A lot of these are amazing, but I especially love the one of the older sister framed in the yellow thingy, that last one, and the fourth-to-last one (of the mother alone) – that one is just beautiful, for some reason.

I have to ask: do you take pictures of them just doing their thing, or is there something specific that you ask them to do for those pictures?

      Such amazing photos!
      Adorable children.

Great pics, fun family, and I totally love the kids’ matching gray sweaters. So adorable.

They are too cute. I hope to have a family as full of love as theirs!

      SO AWESOME!

Seriously – people really are getting a gift from you.
