My mom and dad with me and Ally
      Garden of the Gods
      June 2008

When my parents were in town last week, we went for a walk in the Garden of the Gods to the Siamese Twins rock formation. I can’t believe that I’ve lived in Colorado Springs for four years and have never been to the Siamese Twins. You see them in postcards everywhere, and now I understand why. They are beautiful!

You can see our neighborhood in the background of this photo. I love living in Manitou.

I need to go back some morning with my SRL for some cool shots. These are from my new P&S.

That’s my mom down there. We had a great view from the rocks.

This is the time of year when I go from pasty white to pasty pink.

      Ally found a shady spot.

I really like this one of my parents.

The cactus flowers were blooming in a variety of colors.

I learned that when you kneel down to photograph a cactus flower, make sure you don’t put your knee in a cactus. It took me hours to pull out all the prickles. I’m really smart.

      Aw, my Ally girl.

Those two rock towers are the Siamese Twins I mentioned. Very cool.

Here’s another place that I should have visited years ago. The Garden of the Gods Trading Post looks like a cheeseball tourist trap, so I never bothered to go in until recently. What I’ve learned in the last few weeks is that it has a restaurant and coffee shop with a huge and lovely outdoor patio. They even allow dogs!

Ally was grateful to be able to come in and sit with us.

We sat on the patio for a long time that afternoon, eating lunch, drinking coffee, and eating fudge. Who knew a tourist trap could be so fun?

I’ll bet Ally enjoyed the trip, and the company of her Grandma and Grandpa.

      Re: hi

I love all the wildflowers this time of year!

That would be great! Let me know if you’re ever in this neck of the woods. 🙂

      hi

      that cactus was really pretty.

Lovely photos of you and your parents!!! When my husband and I go out to Colorado (not sure when), I’m tempted to have you go hiking w/ us!!!!!

Your pictures convey that there’s this real openness between your mom and dad, and that there’s this very pleasant chemistry as well. I think that’s very important.

I hope you will be, too. Wishing you and Mike all the best!

As for the rock looking as though it’s going to smoosh your folks, you probably should’ve had them leaning in the same direction as the rock. 😉

What a nice thing to say! I really hope Mike and I will be so happy after 39 years of marriage.

I’m glad you enjoyed it! I want to go hiking now, too.

You really should! It’s a wonderful place to wander around for a day.

I didn’t see that rock until I looked at the photo! It definitely looks like it’s about to smoosh my folks.

Your parents in these pictures look as much in love with each other as when they first met. I don’t know your folks personally, but if that’s indeed true, that’s a real achievement. They look like they just love having fun with each other.

Looks like a lovely time. What beautiful scenery. Makes me want to go hiking! Thanks for sharing. 🙂

That’s beautiful! I’ll definitely add that to my list of must-sees once Jeremy and I make it out to Denver!

looks like a lot of fun!

it is absolutely adorable that your parents match, aw. also, in that picture where they are sitting under/in between the siamese twins, it looks like the big chunk of rock directly above them is about to fall. it scared me.
