About Me

Hi! I’m Charlotte, a photographer in Reston, Virginia.

I have an adorable son, Daniel, who was born in January, 2011.
Danny is curious, active, and sweet. I’m on a working hiatus to stay home with him full-time for a few years. I feel so lucky to be able to do that. I love being a parent in a way that I never quite predicted, a way that I’m not sure I can describe. Perhaps blogging will help me find the words.

I’m married to Mike, my intelligent, handsome, and hilarious husband.
Mike is British, and we got married in his hometown in England in 2005. He’s a software engineer who loves soccer and is clever enough to solve just about any problem we encounter. Much of what I do is possible because Mike supports me and believes in me.

Getting engaged in Santorini is awesome. I highly recommend it.

I’m a professional photographer.
I spent 11 years running a successful wedding and portrait photography business. I loved this career. I traveled all over the country, documented lives, created heirlooms, and had great satisfaction in creating something meaningful.  I still do occasional freelance assignments, but I’m not booking weddings or portraits at this time.

My blog is the best place to see my most recent photographs, including images of my freelance projects, travels, family, and community. You can browse my blog archives to see several years’ worth of my work. Many of my landscapes and other images are available for sale through this site and on my galleries page.

One must never work too hard to bust out an occasional Cupid Shuffle.

We live on Lake Anne in Reston, Virginia, near Washington, D.C.
I grew up in Northern Virginia and went to UVA. Mike and I met in the DC area, and then lived in gorgeous Manitou Springs, Colorado for six years. We moved back to Virginia in late 2010, to be near my family when Danny was born. It’s also a lot closer to Mike’s family in England.

I never knew much about Reston until recently, because I’d always lived inside the Beltway. We were thrilled to discover this community that is perfect match for us. Lake Anne has so much that we always wanted, but never expected to find in the DC area: scenic beauty, walkability, and a social, outdoor lifestyle. Within a five-minute walk of our house, we have a lake, restaurants, shops, a coffee shop, art galleries, a farmers market, concerts, festivals, a pool, tennis courts, and miles of paved walking trails. We have a pontoon boat and kayak, and feel like we live at a resort. This location has been a big factor in my healthy lifestyle. I’m a huge supporter of walkable communities.

I love hiking, running, reading, traveling, and making it up as I go along.
My perfect day would involve an outdoor adventure with my family, a delicious vegetarian dinner, and a good book or a bad reality show. And did I mention that I take a lot of pictures? Pictures are my favorite.
