Mike and I spent the day with my parents and our niece and nephews. A summer day doesn’t get any better than a water park, a pizza picnic, banana splits, dining al fresco by a lake, an outdoor concert, and lots of time with family.
This is a great shot that my Dad took of me with my two nephews at the Water Mine here in Reston. This park is so much fun for the kids that we’ve taken them there twice this week. And as you can see, it’s also fun for at least one grown-up I know.

We headed to Lake Fairfax Park in Reston in the late morning. The boys and I splashed around the edge of the lake.

My little sea turtle dipped his feet in the lake.

After a long wait (over an hour!) we were finally allowed in the water park.

While Mike was on Danny-duty, I drifted around the lazy river with the kids.

My mom took this hilarious series during the moment when I stubbed the hell out of my pinky toe. It still hurts tonight! I hope it won’t impair my weekend running plans.

The kids and I figured out quickly that we go down faster when we do it together. Water slides are an occasion where having extra weight is a good thing.

After dinner, we headed back to our house, and had frozen yogurt banana splits while Danny napped. Then we headed to Lake Anne Plaza for dinner at Kalypso during the Thursday night lakeside concert. Tonight it was a bluegrass band that Danny and my dad loved. Danny kept dancing in his high chair during dinner.

I love Thursday nights in the summer, when lots of people take their boats to the plaza for the concert. My 7-year-old nephew, Robby, told me on our walk home, “This is more fun than playing video games!”

Danny’s sweet cousins ended the night by reading him bedtime stories. He loves them so much.

Thanks, Aimee. I love that picture. It’s true that there is something special about cousins.
